Fashion Philosophy

Why a Gray Scale…?

The word fashion has a wide range of possible definitions, from simply the clothes we put on our backs, to the most avant garde runway items people often think of when it comes to defining fashion. Fashion does not have one textbook definition, instead it is an art form used by millions of people to express themselves. I have often used fashion to express my emotions, opinions, and personality with the world. Fashion is a huge part of my life and I am always trying to find new ways to express new pieces.

My philosophy when it comes to fashion (as cliche as it sounds) is to just be the most genuine version of yourself you can be. For me, this means highlighting one over the top piece while keeping the rest of the look rather simple. Monochromatic fashion has always been something that I found so appealing. The way people are able to put looks together using one color scheme without looking like a cartoon character amazes me. One person who often deals with monochromatic, and some would say dull fashion, is Kanye West. When he first came out with his Yeezy line, there was definitely some controversy surrounding it. Critics often referred to his clothing as overpriced, bland, and my personal favorite “homeless-looking.” Nonetheless, his line blew up and copycat designers are often selling clothes which look very similar, and the style is now very popular with influencers on social media. The gray, beige, and white color scheme often present in the Yeezy line is also something that I see is very common in my fellow peers on campus. The simplicity of the colors allows for easy matching, and not having to stress about what you’re going to wear in the morning. The color scheme also allows for pops of color, which make the styling process fun and adds room for creativity.

My blog will showcase monochromatic and simple fashion, with different elements which give the outfit a pop. People often see this style of fashion as boring, however I want to show that there is so much room for fun and creativity when working with this style of clothing. Welcome to the Gray Scale.
